Cherwell Edge Golf Day report and results
4 months ago

Bright and breezy conditions greeted our competitors as Cherwell Edge Golf Club played host to the penultimate event in the Crown and Anchor season. The course was in excellent condition and the prospect of a high winning score was a distinct possibility.

The first award on offer was at the long Par Four ninth hole where the big hitters got a chance to open their shoulders and let it rip. This provided a new name on the awards list as sponsors guest Tony Osbourne duly came out on top.The front nine was proving to be a tough challenge for our players as scoring was lower than expected and the main bulk of the scoring would need to be done on the last half of the course to take the main competition. The 122 yard Par 3 12th hole was the scene for the 'Nearest the Pin' prize and this was duly scooped by Bob Lee with an excellent tee shot to within three feet. The final spot prize of the day was held at the short Par 4 17th hole where Steve Emery prevailed.

The Main competition was always going to be a close ru affair and this proved to be correct where the count back rule was used on quite a few occasions to decide finishing positions. The third place originally went the way of Bob Lee but a clerical error was discovered after the cards were input onto the main computer and this has now been awarded to Rob Scarrott. The Runners up spot was claimed by Dale Church with a superb 37 points. As previously thought the back nine was going to be vital in this competition and this proved correct as an excellent inward 22 points was enough to give Dorian Sanchez a total of 38 points and thus take the NME Services sponsored trophy.
